While developing his unique teaching method and curriculum, Mr. Albertson drew from his experiences as a teacher and a student - both as a child and an adult.   Mr. Albertson is a highly accomplished pianist, but more importantly, he has extensively studied pedagogy -- the art of teaching. He has observed that many teachers are incredible musicians, but lack the ability to effectively instruct others. As a result, Mr. Albertson selects teachers who interact effectively with students, motivating them and creating a fun environment in which to learn.   The teachers are carefully trained to follow Mr. Albertson's unique method, approaching each lesson as an opportunity to foster a lifelong enjoyment of music.

For children, Mr. Albertson's contemporary approach to teaching is colorful and full of activities to make learning fun.  Using proven methods for teaching, students learn notes, scales, intervals, chords, theory and ear training.  Children learn by playing games and doing projects that teach fundamental skills and techniques.  The assignments are designed to keep young students motivated by frequent success.

Adult students of all levels of advancement find that the Albertson School of Music provides a comfortable and relaxed environment that is ideal for lessons.  We make a point to treat adults as partners in the learning process. Lessons are a collaborative effort, and we invite students to share their goals, expectations, comments and concerns.

Teenage and adult beginners learn with method that quickly teaches music reading, allowing students to rapidly play their instrument successfully. Intermediate and advanced students study music from the classical composers supplemented by music from a range of styles.  With some guidance, students choose the music they study.

For all students at the Albertson School of Music, child or adult, we strive to maintain high standards and expectations --- developing creative, yet stylistically correct interpretations, strong music reading and rhythm skills, and a working knowledge of music theory, all in an environment that is fun and enjoyable.
